Following its great success this year, Lukas Perman is also presenting his production of the global hit around Easter 2025, surprising audiences with a partly new star cast in the Wiener Stadthalle:

Almost 8,000 spectators experienced Jesus Christ Superstar in Lukas Perman's semi-concert production at the Wiener Stadthalle at Easter 2024 - and audiences can look forward to another series of performances next year on 16th and 17th April 2025 at the Wiener Stadthalle.

Jesus Christ Superstar - the only rock opera by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber with lyrics by Tim Rice was and remains a milestone in musical theater literature. Since its premiere in 1971 and above all through the legendary film adaptation in 1973, Jesus Christ Superstar has become a recurring musical hit that has thrilled millions of audiences worldwide - and continues to do so today. Unique songs such as “I don't know how to love him”, “Gethsemane” and “Heaven on their minds” are classics that are familiar to all of us. The lyrics by Tim Rice are based on the liturgy and, together with the immortal music, allow the audience to immerse themselves in the life of Jesus of Nazareth in a highly emotional way. 

Lukas Perman's production focuses on the inner lives of the characters and brings them even closer to the present day and the audience. Live cameras allow the performers' interpretations to be experienced up close on two screens. At Easter 2025, the audience can look forward to a reunion with some of the stars of this year's performance, but also to some new top artists in the cast!

Star cast in the Wiener Stadthalle 

The title role of Jesus in this staged concert performance is played by musical star Oedo Kuipers, who has won the hearts of audiences in Vienna with the title character of Mozart in the musical of the same name and the role of Chris in Miss Saigon in over a hundred performances. At Easter 2024, he inspired and touched the audience deeply as Jesus.

Judas is played by the musical and TV star Serkan Kaya. He is well known to Viennese audiences as the legendary Lucheni in Elisabeth, as Galileo in We will Rock you and from previous concert performances of Jesus Christ Superstar as Judas. In recent years, he has advanced as an actor and TV star on German television and has received several awards, including the Grimme Prize and the German Acting Award 2021.

Maria Magdalena alternates between two extraordinary and very different artists: Ana Milva Gomes and Marjan Shaki. Ana Milva Gomes (on 16.04.2025) is one of the top stars of the musical scene in German-speaking countries. In Vienna she is known from musical hits such as Sister Act, Mamma Mia, Mozart!, Cats and Rebecca. 2017 she reached 2nd place in the ORF program “Dancing Stars”. Marjan Shaki (on 17.04.2025) has been performing in leading roles on the major German-speaking musical stages for 25 years (including Romeo & Juliet, Dance of the Vampires, Evita) and is known to a wide audience thanks to her participation in the final (2nd place) of the ORF show “Dancing Stars”. In 2018, she was awarded the Decoration of Honor of the Republic of Austria for her artistic work and social commitment.

Pontius Pilatus will be taken over by Thomas Borchert. He is one of the most prominent musical stars in the German-speaking world and has appeared in many classics in Vienna over the last two decades, including Elisabeth, Dance of the Vampires, Jekyll & Hyde and Mozart! This is his role debut as Pontius Pilatus in Webber's global hit.

With Georgij Makazaria in the role of Herod, a showstopper is guaranteed. He has proven his quality as a unique entertainer in thousands of performances and will also make the Wiener Stadthalle shake in 2025!

The other roles are also cast with outstanding singers from the Austrian musical theater scene, including Vincent Bueno - known as the winner of the ORF show “Musical! Die Show 2008” and Eurovision Song Contest participant 2020 - in the role of Simon.

The musical direction is in the best hands with Christian Frank. He is known beyond the borders for his expertise in the musical genre. The 11-piece band consists of selected professionals and guarantees musical excellence.
